Opt-In and Opt-Out
Opt-in means a user must actively give permission before data is collected or used; opt-out means collection is allowed until the user declines. Privacy regimes differ on which applies, with stricter laws generally requiring opt-in for sensitive uses.
Opt-in places the default on privacy, requiring affirmative action to allow processing. Opt-out places the default on collection, letting users withdraw afterward.
Which model is required depends on jurisdiction and data type. Either way, honoring choices promptly, including withdrawals, is a core obligation and a trust builder.
